Frankie, any naysayers to a dignified death have not seen the horrors that a person can suffer when facing death. Or worse yet an injury that makes you dependent on another for every aspect of your existence. I have seen it first hand and people need to have a choice in this situation. NMKA

Right to Die Issue Terminally Ill, Hopelessly Paralized, Etc..What Are Your Thoughts?
by frankiespeakin infirst off let me say this is not about me, i'm happy and healthy.
it really about all the suffering i see people going thru.
examples in my family over the years have caused me to think very seriously this.. i could give you a couple of examples and i'm sure some of our posters can tell other horror stories they'd witnessed where perhaps it would have been much better for them and their family if they could have passed away painlessly and with much more dignity.. one of my sisters developed breast cancer and died after about a 12month struggle, we saw her waste away to just skin and bones, it was hard on me as well as her two young children and husband.

Welcome Notewe, you have already received excellent advice from the above posters. It does take time to to over feelings of guilt and a sense that you are evil (you are not). Sometimes you think that experiences you had within the organization were unique or your treatment was different, but it really helps to read old posts from different people and places and find similarity, which I found very comforting. Keep reading. NMKA

We were just talking about this, and no we probably quit contributing about 4 years before we left. I had a hard time contributing my hard earned money to something that criticized me endlessly for educating myself so that I could contribute. I felt so absolutely miserable at meeting that I felt as if someone should be paying me! NMKA

I knew a family like that, they just disappeared. They did not have family "in the truth" and when he got transferred to a southern state they didn't give anyone an address or anything. I babysat for them so the elders kept asking me if I knew anything, they kept saying "we don't know where to send their cards". I could never figure it out before, now I know what they did. Good for them! NMKA

How to Keep Nosy JW Relatives at Bay
by Open mind inmy family is in the process of reaching out to establish friendships outside the jw religion.
at some point we will likely be ready to fade into total jw inactivity.
when we do that there will inevitably be numerous well-intentioned attempts to snatch us from the jaws of satan.

Micky mouse that was a great link. We just get quiet and eventually excuse ourselves when the relatives get too preachy.
Actually they don't say a whole lot. I think they are afraid to know what would rock stable JW's like ourselves out of the organization. If I gave them a non apostate reason they would call it petty. If I pulled out the big guns, like dates, flipflops, the UN, sexual abuse, my fade would be over. So I don't say anything and keep conversation superficial.

Christmas dinner, my boys don't like ham, We are turkey'd out any ideas?
by restrangled inon top of that one of my sons is bringing home a girl friend who is flying over from austria.. i'm thinking maybe lasagna.
i'm pretty good at that, but it doesn't seem real traditional.
the beef is so bad around these parts, i don't dare do a crown roast and besides that cost around $60.00.. what is your favorite dinner?.

My whole family loves pork tenderloin. I finally found a method to not dry it out. Preheat the oven to 500. Bake tenderloin that is sprinkled with dry good seasons dressing mix for 5 min for every lb. Then turn the oven off and do not open the door for one hour, no peeking! Comes out seasoned and juicy. I think that would be great with lasagna. Spiral slice ham is always a hit with au gratin potatoes.

Early 70's to the early 80's
For the class party my mom would usually pick me up early but you had to explain why you were leaving early. Flag salute was a huge stressor everyday. I dreaded little things like a substitute teacher, because a new explanation had to be given often in front of everyone. Then we were constantly being told about persecution and given scary scenarios, like what if someone came into school to force you yo salute the flag. Every time someone new entered the classroom I was terrified. What was worse was the projects and decorations that led up to the holiday, you just never knew when you were going you were going to have to ascertain if something was appropriate and give a good explanation, all at age 9. I had several teachers that put my desk out in the hall so I could work on a worksheet, while everyone else decorated Easter eggs. I guess that's why I never minded when my kids brought home those beautiful pine trees with big red balls on them in December! NMKA

Did you Have One " Power Controlling " Elder in your Congregations ?
by flipper ini believe many congregations had one, if not 90 % of the congregations i attended.
there seemed to always be one elder that dominated over the other elders and incredibly - in spite of the arrangement being called a " body of elders " many times it seemed that one elder would arise and take control over the other elders.
the other elders would roll over and bow essentially to these power elders.

I've never been in a congregation where there wasn't one. He constantly vies for the position of PO, service overseer or secretary so he can have more control. The others are usually afraid of him or just tired. They all go along in the name of unity.
